Today, on August 20th, Hungarians celebrate Saint Stephen’s Day, which commemorates the foundation of Hungary.
Stephen I, also known as King Saint Stephen, was the last Grand Prince of the Hungarians (between 997 and 1000) and the first King of Hungary (from 1000 until his death in 1038).
August 20th is the greatest national holiday in Hungary, celebrated by all Hungarians throughout the country. The celebration lasts the whole day. It usually starts with raising the flag and ends with a spectacular fireworks display over the Danube.
